Heater Solves High Throughput Problem In Food Packaging Operation
Problem:
A food packaging machine manufacturer need to heat an adhesive-backed paper lid for sealing the mouth of a plastic container. By concentrating the heat only around the edge of the container, none of the dairy product inside would be affected by the sealing process. An additional problem with the application involved the high throughput required, making the duration of the heater contact less than one second.
Solution:
A FIREROD® heater was designed to achieve operating temperatures of 1100°F (590°C) with a total heated section of only 0.66-inch (17 mm) located extremely close to the sealing tip. The FIREROD was also centerless ground for good hole fit and heat transfer. Post terminals were chosen because standard lead wires could not hold up under the high operating temperatures.
