FIREBAR Heaters Charge Up Lithium Battery Manufacturing
Problem:
Keeping an aluminum/lithium alloy molten prior to final processing. A silicone carbide tube requires preheating to 1200°F (650°C) before an aluminum/lithium alloy is pumped through it. The pre-heated tube is needed to slow the aluminum/lithium alloy's cooling. Traditional round tubular heating elements did not last more than a week.
Solution:
A 10-inch (25 cm), 20W/in2 (3.1W/cm2), single-ended 304 stainless steel FIREBAR® providing 450 watts, operating on 120 volts provided the necessary heating performance and lasted three months.
