Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)
Watlow uses the industry standard security protocol Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) to encode sensitive information that passes between you and Watlow. A temporary, shared "key" is created that lets only the computers on either end of a transmission scramble and unscramble the information. To anyone between the sender and the receiver the SSL transmission is indecipherable.
Digital certificate security
All ordering transactions via our Web site are issued a digital certificate by VeriSign, Inc., which ensures your data can only be read by Watlow. Digital certificates come from a trusted third party certificate authority, like VeriSign Inc. A certificate authority verifies a company's identification and then issues a unique certificate as proof of identity.
How do the digital certificates work?
After your browser has checked our digital certificate, your browser uses information in our digital certificate to encrypt a message back to us that only our server can understand. Using that information, the browser and the server create a pair of electronic keys. These keys make it possible to verify our claim that we have the right to use the key. Only your browser and our server share those keys and that are good only for that session. Using the unique, shared key, your browser and our server can exchange sensitive information, like your credit card number, in a way third parties can't understand.
You know you are on a secure server when...
As long as you see a secure mode symbol, like a key or closed lock, somewhere along the bottom of your browser's window, your information will be transmitted safely via SSL. In addition, you'll notice the beginning of your URL will change from an "http" to an "https" location.
